Charism/Apostolate
Our Charism is to be love in the heart of the Church through a life of prayer and joyful sacrifice for Priests and all souls. We live in Papal Enclosure in a blend of Solitude and Silence with Community prayer and recreation. We pray the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) and wear the full Carmelite Habit.
History
The Discalced Carmelites (Friars and Nuns) were established by St. Teresa of Jesus in Avila, Spain in 1562 as a reform of the Carmelite Order. Her Nuns eventually moved into France and Belgium and our Carmel was founded from France.
Prayer Life
We pray the full Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours) and have two hours of silent Mental Prayer daily. All of this prayer flows from the Mass, the highlight of our day.
Traditions
We wear the full Carmelite Habit and have great devotion to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Therese. We have two times of recreation and time for manual labor and solitude, prayer and reading.
